We hope you all are having a great start to 2023! Net Impact Chicago (NIC) held a Strategic Planning session on January 8th and we are very excited about the upcoming year. In this newsletter, we are highlighting an event hosted by Plant Chicago as well as community happenings of interest. Stay tuned for our next NIC event which will be held in March!

Plant Chicago: Circular Economy 101 workshop

Net Impact Chicago recommends joining Plant Chicago’s “Circular Economy 101” workshop event on January 28! It’s a hands-on introduction to the circular economy. Plant Chicago is a local organization working towards a circular economy and healthier cities by developing and sharing the most innovative methods for sustainable food production, energy conservation and material reuse. During the event, participants will use concept mapping and open discussions to better understand the circular economy and how it applies to all of us. If you are interested in learning more about the fundamentals of a circular economy as well as networking with like-minded individuals, this is the event for you!

The Great Cities Institute at UIC, Manufacturing Renaissance, MxD, and North Branch Works invite you to attend a mayoral forum regarding the candidates' vision for an industrial policy. Industrial policy affects all aspects of city life including land use & zoning decisions, economic development, job growth, the tax base, and the environment. Candidates will be asked about their industrial policy and how they would approach business-attracting and retention. MxD will host a reception immediately following the forum. Chicago Food Justice Summit 2023 February 8 -10, 2023
Hybrid event - will be held online and at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)
The Chicago Food Policy Action Council (CFPAC), in partnership with the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events (DCASE), will be hosting the 18th Annual Chicago Food Justice Summit to exchange meaningful knowledge, build deep relationships, and make powerful conversations on how to envision our food future together. This event is free, but organizers request that you RSVP here.
Chicago Black Restaurant Week February 12-26, 2023 at Multiple Locations; Pay for own consumption.
February is Black History Month. Chicago BLACK Restaurant Week, founded in September 2015 by Lauran Smith (native Memphian, Chi-Town resident) was designed as a way to celebrate food/beverage/dessert businesses in the African American community.
This year Chicago Black Restaurant Week will be held from February 12 - February 26th. You can check out more information, including a list of participating restaurants, on the Chicago Black Restaurant Week website!
